The international scientific conference - "Poland-Georgia Bicentennial Dialogue" - dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the union "Poland", was opened at Tbilisi State University.

Conference participants were addressed by Iv. Javakhishvili house Vice-Rector of Tbilisi State University Mrs. Nino Gvenetadze, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Georgia Mr. Mariusz Mashkiewicz, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Mrs. Nunu Mickiewicz, Dean of Humanities of TSU Mrs. Nana Gaprindashvili, Rector of St. Tamar King University of the Patriarchate of Georgia, Professor Archimandrite Adam Vakhtang Akhaladze, professor of TSU, head of the Institute of Slavic Studies, Mrs. Maria Filina, and professor of Warmia-Nazuri Olsztyn University, Mrs. Danuta Osovska.

 

In his welcoming speech, along with congratulations and greetings, Father Adam introduced the participants of the conference to unknown or little-known facts and events of Georgian-Polon relations, which occupy a very special place in the cultural memory of both nations. The enthusiastic response of the hall was followed by the Rector of Tamariu's celebration of the merits of some prominent people, including Henrik Hryniewski, Grigol Volski, Ilya and Kirill Zdaniewicz, Zbigniew Waliszewski, Pope John Paul II, Zbigniew Religa, Henrik Paprocki and others.

A plenary session was held, at which reports were presented by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Georgia, Mr. Mariusz Mashkiewicz, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mrs. Nunu Mickiewicz, and the head of the Union of Poles in Belarus, Professor Tadeusz Gadin.
